Release Notes:

Do you remember your first time? I do, and it wasnÆt that long ago. But whether
youÆre a fresh convert or a long-term reader who still fondly thumbs through #1
and dreams of Dog Eat Dog, one thing has remained constant. Namely that in the
great music magazine chain weÆre at the top of the pile and at the end of the
line. Once youÆre sick of having commercial emptiness spoon-fed to you, you come
to Terrorizer and you stay here, scrambling up its rope ladders and along its
gantries into a whole adventure playground of extreme metal.

What that means though is a vast array of different experiences and interests
from the most obscure Burzumic bedroom black metal to the latest SwedoFinnish
singalong sensations, and against that rainbow backdrop the idea of a ænew bandÆ
becomes a bit difficult to fathom. The first issue I picked up featured a cover
star IÆd never heard of and a bunch of Breaking Faces whose back [CENSORED]ues were
already gathering dust on my rack.

So goodbye Breaking Faces, and hello Choice Cuts, where more bands than ever
before, from all across the noisescape are drawn together with only two common
dominators; that theyÆre more cult, underground, new or niche than the bands
around them and that they represent the absolute cream of their particular
crops. Turn to page 16, have a flick through and believe, because lets face it,
where else would you even find an acknowledgement of Seth Putnam let alone news
of his new sludge project?

Aptly then, our coverstars are a clear case of the æWell duh, obviouslyÆ. The
almighty Satyricon have scaled dizzying heights of metal stardom for a band
rooted into the limelight-shy orthodoxy of Norwegian black metal and whilst the
equally worthy likes of Dimmu Borgir have done so while embracing the oft
pilloried and easily dismissed daemon of theatricality, Satyricon have remained
true to their powerful vision, thunderous sound and stark, enigmatic image.
ThereÆre no avenues for cheap shots here, no room for reproach û just solid,
sleek black metal primitivism.
