  Ûº           For his second album, French producer Ludovic             ºÛ
  Ûº           Navarre expanded the possibilities of his                 ºÛ
  Ûº           template for jazzy house by recruiting a sextet           ºÛ
  Ûº           of musicians to solo over his earthy                      ºÛ
  Ûº           productions. The opener "Rose Rouge" is an                ºÛ
  Ûº           immediate highlight, as an understated Marlena            ºÛ
  Ûº           Shaw vocal sample ("I want you to get                     ºÛ
  Ûº           together/put your hands together one time"),              ºÛ
  Ûº           trance-state piano lines, and a                           ºÛ
  Ûº           ride-on-the-rhythm drum program frames solos by           ºÛ
  Ûº           trumpeter Pascal Ohse and baritone Claudio de             ºÛ
  Ûº           Qeiroz. For "Montego Bay Spleen," Navarre pairs           ºÛ
  Ûº           an angular guitar solo by Ernest Ranglin with a           ºÛ
  Ûº           deep-groove dub track, complete with phased               ºÛ
  Ûº           effects and echoey percussion. "Land Of..."               ºÛ
  Ûº           moves from a Hammond- and horn-led soul-jazz              ºÛ
  Ûº           stomp into Caribbean territory, marked by more            ºÛ
  Ûº           hints of dub and the expressive Latin                     ºÛ
  Ûº           percussion of Carneiro. Occasionally, Navarre's           ºÛ
  Ûº           programming (sampled or otherwise) grows a bit            ºÛ
  Ûº           repetitious even for dance fans, to say                   ºÛ
  Ûº           nothing of the jazzbo crowd attracted by the              ºÛ
  Ûº           album's Blue Note tag. Though it is just                  ºÛ

  Ûº           For his second album, French producer Ludovic             ºÛ
  Ûº           Navarre expanded the possibilities of his                 ºÛ
  Ûº           template for jazzy house by recruiting a sextet           ºÛ
  Ûº           of musicians to solo over his earthy                      ºÛ
  Ûº           productions. The opener "Rose Rouge" is an                ºÛ
  Ûº           immediate highlight, as an understated Marlena            ºÛ
  Ûº           Shaw vocal sample ("I want you to get                     ºÛ
  Ûº           together/put your hands together one time"),              ºÛ
  Ûº           trance-state piano lines, and a                           ºÛ
  Ûº           ride-on-the-rhythm drum program frames solos by           ºÛ
  Ûº           trumpeter Pascal Ohse and baritone Claudio de             ºÛ
  Ûº           Qeiroz. For "Montego Bay Spleen," Navarre pairs           ºÛ
  Ûº           an angular guitar solo by Ernest Ranglin with a           ºÛ
  Ûº           deep-groove dub track, complete with phased               ºÛ
  Ûº           effects and echoey percussion. "Land Of..."               ºÛ
  Ûº           moves from a Hammond- and horn-led soul-jazz              ºÛ
  Ûº           stomp into Caribbean territory, marked by more            ºÛ
  Ûº           hints of dub and the expressive Latin                     ºÛ
  Ûº           percussion of Carneiro. Occasionally, Navarre's           ºÛ
  Ûº           programming (sampled or otherwise) grows a bit            ºÛ
  Ûº           repetitious even for dance fans, to say                   ºÛ
  Ûº           nothing of the jazzbo crowd attracted by the              ºÛ
  Ûº           album's Blue Note tag. Though it is just                  ºÛ

  Ûº           productions. The opener "Rose Rouge" is an                ºÛ
  Ûº           immediate highlight, as an understated Marlena            ºÛ

  Ûº           trance-state piano lines, and a                           ºÛ
  Ûº           ride-on-the-rhythm drum program frames solos by           ºÛ

  Ûº           Qeiroz. For "Montego Bay Spleen," Navarre pairs           ºÛ
  Ûº           an angular guitar solo by Ernest Ranglin with a           ºÛ
  Ûº           deep-groove dub track, complete with phased               ºÛ
  Ûº           effects and echoey percussion. "Land Of..."               ºÛ
  Ûº           moves from a Hammond- and horn-led soul-jazz              ºÛ

  Ûº           Since the advent of acid jazz in the mid-'80s,            ºÛ
  Ûº           the many electronic-jazz hybrids to come down             ºÛ
  Ûº           the pipe have steadily grown more mature,                 ºÛ
  Ûº           closer to a balanced fusion that borrows the              ºÛ
  Ûº           spontaneity and emphasis on group interaction             ºÛ
  Ûº           of classic jazz while still emphasizing the               ºÛ
  Ûº           groove and elastic sound of electronic music.             ºÛ
  Ûº           For his second album, French producer Ludovic             ºÛ
  Ûº           Navarre expanded the possibilities of his                 ºÛ
  Ûº           template for jazzy house by recruiting a sextet           ºÛ
  Ûº           of musicians to solo over his earthy                      ºÛ
  Ûº           productions. The opener "Rose Rouge" is an                ºÛ
  Ûº           immediate highlight, as an understated Marlena            ºÛ
  Ûº           Shaw vocal sample ("I want you to get                     ºÛ
  Ûº           together/put your hands together one time"),              ºÛ
  Ûº           trance-state piano lines, and a                           ºÛ
  Ûº           ride-on-the-rhythm drum program frames solos by           ºÛ
  Ûº           trumpeter Pascal Ohse and baritone Claudio de             ºÛ
  Ûº           Qeiroz. For "Montego Bay Spleen," Navarre pairs           ºÛ
  Ûº           an angular guitar solo by Ernest Ranglin with a           ºÛ
  Ûº           deep-groove dub track, complete with phased               ºÛ
  Ûº           effects and echoey percussion. "Land Of..."               ºÛ
  Ûº           moves from a Hammond- and horn-led soul-jazz              ºÛ
  Ûº           stomp into Caribbean territory, marked by more            ºÛ
  Ûº           hints of dub and the expressive Latin                     ºÛ
  Ûº           percussion of Carneiro. Occasionally, Navarre's           ºÛ
  Ûº           programming (sampled or otherwise) grows a bit            ºÛ
  Ûº           repetitious even for dance fans, to say                   ºÛ
  Ûº           nothing of the jazzbo crowd attracted by the              ºÛ
  Ûº           album's Blue Note tag. Though it is just                  ºÛ
  Ûº           another step on the way to a perfect blend of             ºÛ
  Ûº           jazz and electronic, Tourist is an excellent              ºÛ
