ß Þ orchestral breakbeat opus that for it's time was unlike Ý ß
ß Þ any other track out there was to be called Symphony. Ý ß
ß Þ This soon led to the album 'Wide Angle', which further Ý ß
ß Þ developed this unique hybrid of breakbeats and Ý ß
ß Þ orchestra, taking it to the clubs and minds of many Ý ß
ß Þ worldwide. Throw in dj gigs in almost every city in the Ý ß
ß Þ world, stadium tours with Moby and a live show that was Ý ß
ß Þ witnessed by hundreds of thousands of people and you Ý ß
ß Þ can say that Hybrid's status evolved fairly quickly. So Ý ß
ß Þ quick in fact that its taken almost five years for them Ý ß
ß Þ to deliver the follow up album, but now 'Morning Sci Ý ß
ß Þ Fi' is here, and it shows an older, more matured Ý ß
ß Þ Hybrid, complete with new members Adam Taylor (lead Ý ß
ß Þ vocals and guitar) and Alex Madge (drums). Add in a Ý ß
ß Þ little help from their friends, including songstress Ý ß
ß Þ Kirsty Hawkshaw, legendary New Order bassist Peter Ý ß
ß Þ Hook, St Petersburg's acclaimed Hermitage String Ý ß

ß Þ As 'This Is What It Means' slowly emerges from the Ý ß
ß Þ speakers, Hybrid craft a warm up groove over which none Ý ß
ß Þ other than John Creamer explains to us about dreams Ý ß
ß Þ within music, and what it means. It's a subtle yet Ý ß
ß Þ surreal introduction into what promises to be an high Ý ß
ß Þ octane 70 minutes or so, and as the first beats of Ý ß
ß Þ 'True To Form' drift in, the mood changes straight Ý ß
ß Þ away. A sleek percussion sits within the haunting Ý ß
ß Þ strings and powerful vocals delivered by vocalist Adam Ý ß
ß Þ Taylor (the first of several tracks he fronts), Ý ß
ß Þ gradually developing into layers of understated beats Ý ß
ß Þ that have become one of Hybrid's trademarks. However a Ý ß
ß Þ new element is introduced as bass guitar licks are Ý ß
ß Þ spliced into the beat patterns, provided by none other Ý ß

ß Þ combination of beats, strings and guitar topped off by Ý ß
ß Þ Adam's diverse vocal range showcases a deeper, more Ý ß
ß Þ matured sound from Hybrid, and as the lead single from Ý ß

ß Þ The heavy artillery breaks are kept rolling as 'Know Ý ß
ß Þ Your Enemy' edges it's way in, tight compacted drum Ý ß
ß Þ beats crashing down like an industrial machine, fading Ý ß
ß Þ into an outer-worldly sounding break, before the Ý ß
ß Þ returning beats raise the adrenalin level once more, Ý ß
ß Þ toying with you as 'Marrakech' comes next. Slow Ý ß
ß Þ shimmering beats sit at the heart of this downtempo Ý ß
ß Þ edged cut as haunting string layers engulf the swelling Ý ß
ß Þ groove as it drops out and returns with darkner intent, Ý ß
ß Þ setting the mood for the next track, 'I'm Still Awake'. Ý ß
ß Þ ß Þ around Cafe Del Mar. The change in pace is kept slow as Ý ß
ß Þ 'Gravastar' creeps in next, it's combination of beat Ý ß
ß Þ layers and synth loops encapsulating the spacious Ý ß
ß Þ melody that slices through the centre. More Ý ß
ß Þ experimental in style than a lot of Hybrid's work to Ý ß
ß Þ date, this adds an extra dimension to an already widely Ý ß
ß Þ diverse album, fading into a thrashy beat groove which Ý ß
ß Þ means one thing. It's time to head 'Out Of The Dark'. Ý ß
ß Þ Melody lines rise out of the gaps between the dark beat Ý ß
ß Þ patterns during the outro, ethereal sounds lending an Ý ß
ß Þ eerie edge to Adam's delayed vocals, beats rising and Ý ß
ß Þ keys changing in time with his voice, sweeping and Ý ß
ß Þ dropping as the atmosphere within grows, fading out to Ý ß
ß Þ another vocal led break, this time dropping into a Ý ß
ß Þ menacing and sinister breakbeat outro, with spacial Ý ß
ß Þ effects ripping the groove apart. A dramatic finale to Ý ß
ß Þ quite possibly the standout track of the album, and a Ý ß
ß Þ real contender for a single, if not a breakbeat anthem Ý ß
ß Þ in the making. The final track on the album is the Ý ß
ß Þ heartfelt emotion of 'Blackout', featuring the vocals Ý ß
ß Þ of the very talented ex Opus III front woman Kirsty Ý ß
ß Þ Hawkshaw. As we have come to expect from her work with Ý ß
ß Þ artists such as BT and Way Out West, she delivers a raw Ý ß
ß Þ vocal performance over slow tribal drums, with the Ý ß
ß Þ backing of the Hermitage String Orchestra adding Ý ß
ß Þ emotion and power to an already outstanding finale. Ý ß
ß Þ Quite literally a track that would be the perfect Ý ß
ß Þ example of what Hybrid are all about, and bringing to Ý ß
