Release Notes:
Although the latest news posted to their Web site is dated from last October, Dr. Dog revealed some pretty interesting news to Spinner backstage at the Langerado Music Festival recently. The band has just emerged from the studio with not only a new full-length but a full-on concept album.
"All the songs are holding hands," says guitarist Scott McMicken. "It's all about one thing, the concept of fate. And the reason why it's such an airtight concept, aside from all the work that we did within the lyrics and the way the songs flow together, is that we really didn't set out to make a concept album."
With a subject so direct yet wide-open, it wasn't until the band named the album 'Fate' (after a song of the same name) that they realized all the songs were already linked. "There were all these themes that we were deciding upon, things like clocks and time and the past and trains and rhythm," says McMicken, "and so, in a way, it's like the concept itself was fated. So it is fate and it is about fate, as well."
When asked how the album turned out, virtually the entire band simultaneously responds, "It's awesome." Fated or not, the song that Dr. Dog previewed for Spinner did seem pretty timeless. Guess you could say that everything is going according to plan.
